There’s a special kind of hum that fills the air at Host Milano — the sound of innovation percolating, of ideas brewing stronger than espresso. For us at Heys Scientific, this year’s event wasn’t just another trade show — it was a pilgrimage to the heart of coffee craftsmanship.
With our first grinder launching in the coming weeks, we arrived with open eyes, full hearts, and notebooks ready to brim with inspiration. We met engineers whose minds are as intricate as their machinery, and roasters whose passion could roast beans with enthusiasm alone. We wandered through stands buzzing with creativity, taking notes on how to add that extra Heys touch for our future customers.
A Taste of the World in a Cup
We sampled coffee from near and far — rich Italian espressos, velvety pour-overs, and experimental brews that danced on the palate. I tried my first extra-dark roast, and it completely shifted my idea of balance and bitterness — a smoky revelation that lingered like a memory.
But my favourite cup came from a small, radiant business: @arre_pues_cafe from Colombia. The owner, a kind and passionate man, shared his ‘Pink Bourbon Natural’ with me — bright, juicy, and unforgettable. Every sip told a story of soil, sun, and soul.
We also had the joy of watching the World Coffee Brewing Championships, standing among fellow dreamers as the 2025 champion was crowned. To see that level of mastery up close was humbling — and motivating. In a few short years, we hope to return to Host Milano not just as visitors, but as exhibitors, proudly sharing our first grinder with the world.
Thoughts on Accessibility
Host Milano is a celebration of craft, but like any large event, it has room to grow — particularly in accessibility. For visitors with dietary needs, options for gluten-free and vegan meals were limited, which made refueling between exhibitions a bit of a quest.
From a physical accessibility perspective, while many areas were spacious and step-free, some halls and side routes posed challenges for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility. Clearer signage, more seating areas, and improved lift access would help make this global gathering even more welcoming. After all, coffee culture is built on inclusivity — a table where everyone belongs.
From Milan to Lake Como
After the intensity of Milan, we traded exhibition halls for lake breezes and cobblestone streets. Lake Como was the perfect place to unwind, reflect, and, of course, keep tasting.
A few of our favourite stops:
☕ Caffè Maya in Como’s old town — warm, fragrant, and endlessly inviting.
☕ La Vita è Bella Café, where the cappuccinos come with a view as rich as the crema.
☕ Peck Como, a sleek modern spot serving precision-brewed espresso with a contemporary flair.
☕ And Cardamomo Caffè, a hidden gem where conversation flows as easily as the coffee.
Each café reminded us that coffee, at its best, connects people — across languages, mountains, and generations.
Family, Passion, and the Road Ahead
As a family business, these travels have a special kind of magic. Between sips and sunsets, we dreamed up designs, shared stories, and reconnected with why we started Heys Scientific in the first place: to make coffee preparation as meaningful as the cup itself.
We return home inspired — minds steeped in ideas, hearts full of gratitude, and hands eager to craft. Next time we step onto the floor at Host Milano, we hope it’s behind a counter of our own, sharing what we’ve built with those who love coffee as deeply as we do.
Here’s to good coffee, good people, and the journeys that bring them together.
