Lloyd begins to learn about engineering from his precision obsessed father Ronnie, in the home workshop at 39 The Heys, Coppull, and a lifelong passion ignites.

Lloyd’s son Oliver has his inherited the family obsession with precision, but this time it’s with specialty coffee. Oliver dreams up the idea of a super precise grinder.

Lloyd gets working on the idea in Computer Aided Design. Prototypes are built and are shown to the public at the Manchester Coffee Festival and valuable feedback is sought.

Another year of hard work begins. Lloyd quits his job, designing scientific instruments to go all in on the Mikros One precision hand grinder. A new prototype is made, an evolution from lessons learned and eight new improvements.

Manufacturing begins, but the U.K. suppler fails to deliver parts to the required standard after more than a year of patiently waiting. Heys Scientific almost runs out of money as a result.

No time is wasted during the year long wait. Lloyd and Oliver add to the range of grinders, seeking to make their discoveries and innovation available to a broader audience.
After regrouping, Lloyds old friend and chartered financial analyst Rob joins the team to provide a much needed guiding hand.
